Become a Mentor

One hour a week can change the life of a child forever.

It may sound obvious, but sometimes the best place to help a child realize their potential is at school. Kids enjoy having mentors meet with them there, whether it’s in the classroom, media center or on the playground. And parents know what a positive impact it makes.

It’s teacher-approved.

Some of the biggest supporters of mentoring programs are teachers. They see students come back from their time with their mentor filled with confidence, ready to learn and eager to succeed. Students who are assigned a reading mentor have improved their reading skills by 90%.

Learning about life.

Although it takes place at schools, this mentoring program isn’t limited to the classroom. At the end of the day, it’s really all about starting a friendship, providing guidance and inspiring them to reach their potential.

Getting started is easy.

Through a partnership between Big Brothers Big Sisters and St. Lucie Public Schools, St. Lucie SOARS is registering community members to become reading mentors. Clicking the link below will take you to a form that will allow you to submit your initial registration.
